In a study, New Zealand’s government reported an increased rate of kidney injury following two doses of Pfizer mRNA vaccines. The study showed a 70% increase in kidney injury after receiving two doses, and a 60% increase after one dose. The study included data from over 4 million people who received the Pfizer vaccines. The number represented 95% of New Zealand adults and teenagers. The data showed a significant change in acute kidney injuries compared to historical background rates. However, the full paper is no longer available online, only the abstract. In a revised version of the abstract, the reported number of acute kidney injuries was significantly reduced. The study period was from February 19, 2021, to February 10, 2022, during a time when New Zealand had low rates of COVID-19. The study suggests that the observed kidney injuries cannot be attributed to COVID-19 infection. Other studies have also reported kidney injuries and renal events following COVID-19 vaccination.
