Asia markets experienced a mixed session on Monday due to the holiday-shortened week in most markets, as China remained closed. Several major stock markets in the Asia-Pacific region, including Hong Kong, Taiwan, and South Korea, were closed. Japan’s Nikkei 225 remained above the 37,000 point mark, maintaining its 34-year highs from Friday. Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 initially fell 0.3% after opening. On Friday, Wall Street closed higher after lower-than-expected revised inflation figures for December. The S&P 500 closed above 5,000 for the first time, while the Nasdaq Composite also saw gains. The Dow Jones Industrial Average settled lower.
